Shocking: Steve Burton Speaks Out on Casting Shake-Up.
General Hospital has been known to recast key characters when storylines require the person to return, but the original player, for whatever reason, isn’t being brought back to Port Charles.
Is that what’s happening now? Steve Burton recently chatted on his podcast with Bradford Anderson about working with a new actor on the show who needs to be up on some of the program’s backstory.
Together Again for the First Time
“So, there’s a guy on the show right now, who came on the show and you guys will see him,” Burton previewed in That’s Awesome With Steve Burton & Bradford Anderson(Spinelli).
“He may have aired. I’m not sure, but I had some scenes with him, and I can’t say what it is yet, but I said [to him], ‘Do you know exactly what’s happening [in this scene]?'”
Burton explains that his scene partner was making some choices about his character as they pertained to historical events on the show that the viewers are quite familiar with.
“He’s like, ‘I don’t really know what’s really happened,'” Burton shared. He added that the new actor on the show creates his own backstory to make the scene compelling.
“You know, he’s been an actor for a long, long time,” Burton continues. “He’s been on some primetime shows. He’s done this a long [for] a long time.”
To make the scene flow properly, Burton offered to fill his scene partner in on the show’s backstory so that his character would be in the know.
“I said, ‘Do you mind if I just tell you…what this is, why they’re doing it, and what the involvement for me is, and he goes, ‘No, I would love to [know].'”
You’ve Got to Have Friends
Burton adds that his input was appreciated. “If you can just give someone just a few things where they go, ‘Oh, that’s why I’m saying this,'” the GH vet says.
Who could the mysterious returnee be? WhileAJ (last played by Sean Kanan) is a possible candidate, he’s not likely a probable one.
The character has been killed off twice, but if the show did need an AJ, it wouldn’t be able to go to Kanan, as the actor is under contract on The Bold and the Beautiful, where he plays Deacon Sharpe.
